Take Her Out

Posted on Thu May 23rd, 2019 @ 3:56am by Captain Matthew Desmond

Mission: Baptism by Fire
Timeline: 64 hours after the initial briefing

Captain Desmond stepped off the turbolift and on to the bridge. The last 12 hours had been a whirlwind for him, and he couldn't believe that now was the time to give the orders to take the Jazza out. It was a bittersweet moment however, given that this was a new starship, they were typically launched with much fanfare and speeches and a whole contingent of reporters onboard throughout the first mission. Today there would be no speeches, no fanfare, and only a few press members onboard due to the rushed timeline of getting the ship out.

"Captain on the bridge!" declared CPO Marellina.

"As you were," Desmond said as he sat down in the command chair.

He reflected on the last 72 hours since he had been given command of the Jazza. He had to admit he was extremely proud of the crew for pulling together to rush through three months worth of checks in less than three days.

"Commander Sexton," he said, "open a shipwide channel."

Commander Sexton nodded, "Opening a channel, aye, sir."

"Crew of the U.S.S. Jazza, we are about to embark upon our maiden voyage. Scans have picked up some unusual activity near the neutral zone, we're to rendezvous with the U.S.S. Lexington, they've been monitoring a strange gravimetic reading. They've been running on radio silence for the last five days, our orders are to head to the area at best possible speed, make contact with the Lexington and try to figure out the source of these readings. I don't have to remind anyone that Chancellor L'Rell and the Klingon High Council have been helping maintain an amicable version of the peace treaty recently signed to end the war. We don't want to be the crew that re-ignites a war. I expect all departments to be vigilant and to do their duties with distinction. Desmond out."

"Commander Sexton, advise space dock that we're ready for departure."

"Captain, space dock confirms we are cleared for departure."

"Retract moorings, once clear, take us out, full thrusters, once clear of space dock doors, come right to course 134 mark 4. Engage."
